Ode To My Beta Reader

Happy Birthday, Andrea!

It’s my beta reader’s birthday, time to repost an “ode” I wrote for her a few years ago.

Ode to My Beta Reader

My writing stumbles, and one clumsy word

Follows the other, falling from my head

Onto the blameless page quite undeterred:

Words waiting for adornments made in red.

This is the beta reader’s hefty lot.

She wields her pen correcting word and phrase

And punctuation that runs wild and free.

All this she sets to rights, but never plot.

For all of this she well deserves my praise:

Invaluable friend, let’s have some tea.

    1. A good beta reader is priceless. Two are even better. It took me a while to learn that, it takes getting used to accepting criticism and even welcome it. Andrea has also become a good friend over the years.

      1. Well, having just gone through the process, I most certainly agree. It was interesting, and helpful, to see where my readers agreed, and where one held strong views on a passage while the others skipped through it. No, one alone is not enough.
